A place where healing begins

We & She Foundation is a non-profit organisation working with women in dysfunctional marriages. Established in 2017, its main objective is identifying and rehabilitating women who have had broken or dysfunctional marriages. It is the first NGO in India dedicated to empowering divorced women and women abandoned by their husbands.

Our vision

To create a society where women, regardless of their marital status, can live with dignity, independence, and equal opportunities.

Our mission

The We & She Foundation aims to provide support, rehabilitation, and empowerment to women, particularly those in dysfunctional or broken marriages. The organization focuses on helping women regain their confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose.

మేము ఆమె కోసం: మేము ఆమె కోసం నిలబడతాం, ఆమె తన కాళ్లపై తాను నిలబడే వరకు.

How it began

Shravya Mandadi’s life was set on a clear path. She was preparing for the civil services exams and had already led a citizens’ campaign to save Hyderabad’s KBR Park. Then a young student on her campus, overwhelmed by exam pressure, took his own life. She could not shake one question: why do so many people feel they have nowhere to turn?

She began meeting the heads of NGOs. Many worked for women: rape survivors, women with disabilities, widows. None focused on a group suffering in silence: divorced women. The deeper she looked, the more she found. Girls married as children and abandoned by puberty. Women with no income and no support, trapped in dependency that often led to exploitation and abuse. Many were drowning in depression, judged by everyone around them.

She sold her gold bangles and in 2017 founded We & She, the first NGO in India dedicated to empowering divorced women and those abandoned by their husbands. In July 2018 she travelled to all 31 districts of Telangana in 31 days to meet them in person.

“Sometimes, all it takes is one person, one act of courage, to start a ripple that changes everything.”

From the foundation’s story.

What we believe

  • Dignity first

A broken marriage does not define a woman’s worth. We use her name only with her consent and tell her story only the way she wants it told.

  • Go to her

The women who need us most will never find a website. So we go to them, village by village, door to door.

  • Independence, not dependence

Charity ends when the money does. A skill, an income and knowledge of her rights last a lifetime.

  • Bring everyone along

Families, panchayats, police, universities and government all shape a woman’s life. We work with all of them.

Our journey so far

  1. Before

Shravya Mandadi, preparing for the civil services, leads a citizens’ effort to save KBR Park in Hyderabad. The suicide of a student on her campus makes her ask why so many people feel they have nowhere to turn.

  2. 2017

Finding no NGO focused on divorced and abandoned women, she sells her gold bangles and founds We & She, the first NGO in India dedicated to them.

  3. 2018

From 1 to 31 July, the “We for Her” (Memu Aame Kosam) campaign covers all 31 districts of Telangana: 4,116 km and more than 30,000 women.

  4. 2018

Two months after a promise made on day 10 of the campaign, Sakkubhai, an abandoned elderly woman in Seerole village, moves into a new home: Sakkubhai Nilayam.

  5. 2019

Village legal awareness camps in Modallaguda and Appareddyguda with the Legal Aid Centre of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.

  6. 2020

During the COVID-19 lockdowns, calls for help from women facing domestic violence rise sharply. We respond with counselling and relief.

  7. 2025

On 11 October, We & She opens its first skill centre in Ramanthapur, Hyderabad, with free tailoring and maggam embroidery courses for single women.

  8. Today

547 single women rehabilitated, and more than 50,000 women and girls reached by our awareness campaigns.
